【Product Use】
Oxygen Index Tester is a simulation test instrument designed to comply with testing standards such as GB/T5454, GB/T2406.2, GB/T16581, ASTM D 2863, and GB38262. It can be used to determine the burning behavior of homogeneous solid insulating materials using the oxygen index method, the burning behavior of insulating liquids using the oxygen index method, and the oxygen index of textile burning.
【Testing Principle】
1. The test principle for the oxygen index of plastic combustion involves vertically fixing a specimen in a combustion chamber containing an upward-flowing mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. The top of the specimen is ignited, and its burning characteristics are observed. The continuous burning time or burning length of the specimen is compared with given criteria. Through a series of combustion tests at different oxygen concentrations, the minimum oxygen concentration is estimated.
2. The principle for determining the minimum oxygen concentration required for textile combustion involves vertically fixing a specimen in a combustion chamber containing an upward-flowing mixture of nitrogen and oxygen. The top of the specimen is ignited, and its burning characteristics are observed. The afterflame time or damage length is compared with specified limit values. By testing a series of specimens at different oxygen concentrations, the minimum oxygen concentration, expressed as the percentage of oxygen required to sustain combustion, can be measured. For combustion, 40% to 60% of the specimens must exceed the specified afterflame and smoldering time or damage length.
3. The test principle for the oxygen index method of insulating liquid combustion involves placing a small amount of liquid sample in a borosilicate glass cup, which is fixed in a glass combustion chamber containing an upward-flowing mixture of oxygen and nitrogen. The liquid sample is then ignited. The lowest oxygen concentration that can just sustain combustion for 60 seconds or more is taken as its oxygen index.
